This is panel number 7 from my work “the Coming Out Self portraits.
The most radical change in my attitude toward my appearance occurred during my coming out. I narrate my coming out using 8 self portraits based on photographs taken from 1973 till 1982. The first photos (1973, 1975) are from ID cards: I was shy and wanted as few as possible pictures taken from me. Basically there are no other photos of me from those years The photo’s of the intervening years (1976, 1982) are cut outs from group photo’s of social occasions. The last two photo’s (1982) are made with a self timer: at that time I saw myself as a pretty boy part of the gay scene.
